After an incredibly productive learning experience with Joseph (and Madeline) yesterday, I've decided to try to spend today looking at everything a bit differently! First, I decided that I really didn't need to export my photos from iPhoto then load them to my facebook page... I actually checked out the link on iPhoto and decided, "I'm doing it!" Nothing came up that made me cringe, so I'm thinking "it's all good" and moving forward!
Next... well, I thought I should update my blog and I REALLY should have a facebook page for my art classes so more people can see the work and what I do with the kids, but I decided that getting to my blog this morning should happen before I do that, so.... time to change how I see the title of this blog!
I've got to get some guidance on making this blog more me, and that will have to be AFTER I create that fb page for my art classes.... thankfully, the weekend is almost here!

After reading so many quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr., I've decided to get my day moving and make it a creative day all around!
First- it's a workout.... I'm hoping that todays dvd is for legs and butt... my arms, back and shoulders are definitely feeling the workouts of the past couple of days!
Second- into the studio to start another page of my "Inspiration Art Journal"! I've been gathering things to continue each day.... I don't know if I'll keep moving or just do one a day, but I'm definitely inspired!
Third... cutting mats for the acrylic paintings so I can frame then and then hang them in the studio tonight!

positive energy.... be in the moments.... breathe..... be happy...... all good thoughts for today!

Sounds like a title for the newspaper right?!?!?!? Well, I have to honestly say that these kids in this class have truly invoked the spirit of Matisse and what he was thinking with his move toward Fauvism and his still life paintings!!!! I left Friday night so incredibly inspired and my soul was definitely singing so loudly that I thought my heart would burst! I know, I know it sounds sappy and crazy and like, "okay, Julie, that's a little over the top!" BUT.... what you may not understand is how much happiness a teacher can feel when a lesson truly flows and the results are like these!!!! These kids keep reminding me how much I love what I do!

I know, I know... left the blog thing in mid stream yet again! BUT.. I'm here today and that's the best I can do right now~ I'm trying...really!
Here's the huge news... the art classes are growing. It's not leaps and bounds, but it's better than I ever hoped for! My Friday class is full- 6 kids. Any more and they'd be literally painting one another in the space we've got! Monday's class- 5 kids!!!! Tuesday has a few open places, but it's all GREAT, WONDERFUL, INSPIRING!
I'll take all of 2010 to be as inspiring as these first couple of weeks have been~ we are off and running!

What A Week!!!

Seems like I keep saying the time is just flying by! Guess that means I'm getting older!?
This week we worked on studying VanGogh's Sunflowers with the 5-8 yr olds and we talked about line and patterns in my other class. Too much fun, that's all I can say! The answers to questions are just so matter of fact! I just love that about young kids... not to mention their artwork. It's the same~ matter of fact! That's how it is, that's what I want it to look like and I'm going to create things this way.... no issues with "I can't do it" or "I'm afraid to make the wrong mark"

I'm going to blend all that thought into my life today! No negative- all that ...this is good, I can do it... I make GREAT artwork ...so that didn't work, I'll make a different line here..... and on and on!!!!

Once again, the teacher learns from the students~ teaching is still the BEST gig EVER!!!!!

Another week.... time to get busy!

Okay- so I've gotten the workout in- found the necessary visuals for today's lesson and am now headed upstairs to finish one muse and start another! I definitely need something to keep the jumpstart going past noon!

Another week has basically flown by! Seems I'm always moving, so perhaps that's partly why I never notice the minutes and hours ticking away! I just came downstairs from working at my bench- another Artful Spirits Muse is just about finished! This one is my courage muse and truly in homage to those women I know that have taken on cancer and had the courage to fight and live their lives. All that's left of my "Courage Muse" is her hair! I'm thinking of how I'll do this one.... hair/no hair??? Wild/tame???? Hmmm, I"m going to think about this until tomorrow!

And... in my art classes we're working on self-portraits! The class I had did a great job- one girl was visiting and took her's home, but James and Julia left theirs behind so I can hang them in the studio! I brought them home to take pics..... here they are! One by a 5 yr old and another by an 8 yr old! I love them! Can't wait to see what is created tomorrow!!!!

Today we'll be moving from a realistic still life drawing into an enlargement of an area of the still life. I'm going to move into abstract compositions in acrylic with Joseph today! Life is good!!!!!

Holy C*%#!!!! How can it be Friday?!?

Okay, I can NOT believe it's already Friday- this week just FLEW by!!! I guess that's what mach 5 will do for you! Now if it could just uplift the jowls a bit and feather away a few pounds and wrinkle lines- I'd be frigging fabulous!!!! Just kidding!! My inner muse is truly trying to embrace all of me!

This morning has already been stellar! I have boldly gone where I have not ventured before and made my own listings on etsy! I know, what the hell has happened to me, right? I have absolutely no idea! But, I am loving it! I'll do more later tonight after I get home from teaching my "leather n links" Artful Spirits class at Fineline. I do have a few more pieces to post! My Be Fearless muse being one... just not sure I'm ready to risk losing her! (How ridiculous is THAT??? Create a Be Fearless Muse and then be afraid to sell her??????) Okay- letting go of that crap right now!

I will be listing the Muse later!
Off to work outside today, teach later and enjoy that glass of wine while I list some pieces on etsy.... in keeping with the spirit of Halloween... I am definitely frightening myself!!!!! ;)

I took the last week I thought I could incorporate pumpkins safely and we studied line with the I'm an artist group... well, it turned out to be 2 sisters because of cold season! Here's the great part... it just doesn't matter how many! I chatted with them about line and about lines on a pumpkin not being straight, but curved. We looked at our straight lines from last week's Mondrian/line lesson and even counted curved lines.... then Avery says to her sister and me, "Did you know that if a pumpkin has more lines it has more seeds?" Neither of us had heard that- I was so impressed that she shared that and was quite confident with herself!

I do believe my fall funk has been put on hold because of these incredible young artists I get to share my time with.... I have no room in my life for a fall funk this year and I am loving it!!!!!

Well, I was in my art room waiting with all my bells and whistles and of my 3 students- 2 were sick and well, one was just "mia"!!! It does give me more time to fine tune the lesson on portraits~ so it's really not a bad thing!!! Hopefully, James and Julia will feel much better and Rose will be back with bells on next week!!!! Today is a tissue paper collage still life for my 4 & 5 year olds!!! Gotta love that!

I may not be posting every day, but I've promised myself to do at least 2 per week... so far, so good! I'm not sure if anyone is reading the blog, or even looking at the pictures, but I've got to keep on moving forward.... routines aren't that easy, you know?!?!?
Yesterday's class was the second group of Warhol to Durer. They did great! There's something special about 3rd graders when you dialog as you're teaching. They really have so much insight!
They set up their own still-life (asymmetrical, like Cezanne!) and finished their drawing with watercolor washes. Time to think about next week's lessons! Bring it on.... another day, another artist!

finished with her.... my "Be Fearless Muse" is well on her way to
being finished! It definitely feels like where I'm supposed to be right
now.... breathing and playing! I've got another piece cut out, so I'll be moving forward soon! First I need to add some of the gold filled wire and complete this muse!!!!

Yes, attempting at productivity right now... my goddess brooch is in the pickle~ the clothes are being wash, dried and folded!! So far, so good! I've got class at 4:30.... I can't wait to see what the kids come up with as far as designing their own still life! I'm debating on whether I give them different things or not?

I just posted the work from my class, "I'm An Artist" for 4, 5 and 6 year olds. We talked about lines- straight lines... some thick, some thin, some longer some shorter, some vertical, some horizontal and then Piet Mondrian! I think the kids did a great job, especially in an hour!

Today, I'm headed outdoors to try and accomplish getting the front flower beds ready for winter! I'm done waiting for the flowers to die! They're done in my opinion!!! Small steps require me to only do the front, then try to get to some copper work in my studio before Zoe and Amanda get here for ccd!!!

I'm hitting the treadmill now, then the gardens, then, Studio, here I come!!!

Today we talked about Cezanne and how he believed all things could be broken down into shapes. We also talked about the deliberate asymmetry in his composition! The kids put together their own still life- I love it! Then we made the composition on watercolor paper and painted it! I think they did an amazing job!!! But... the best part was at the end they each knew what asymmetrical was!!!! How cool are these kids?!?!?!?!?!?

Okay week, lets get moving!!! The weekend flew by and while that makes me a bit sad, I'm ready for an exciting week! New art lessons this week in the Fineline "Art Studio" with some still life watercolors, contour drawings and some linear collage. It'll be great!
I managed to hang some more things in the art area with Al's help. I'm definitely leaving my mark in that room! We got some cupboards arranged and some more supplies put away. (I found a great art supply store in West Hartford called, believe it or not, Jerry's Artarama~ FINALLY...I don't have to meander through Michaels!)
The kids made some beautiful prints on Friday. I really think we need more time though- if I'm going to try to complete a lesson each week- they definitely need to be longer! Next session- longer classes!!! I'm also considering a class for 2 year olds- they make art too, right?!?!?!?!?

What a fun day! Got the basics taken care of early, did some grocery shopping and then headed to Fineline to meet some new students for my "Art Experience~ Durer to Warhol" class! We did some printmaking today- the prints look fabulous!!!!

Following my art lesson we managed to bang out some cold connections and create necklaces with nickle, copper and brass!! Little sip of wine, bam, bam, bam, little chip and dip, bam, bam, bam!!!! It's all good!!!!

Not sure what the weather will be tomorrow, but our friend Al will be here in the morning and the fun will ensue after that!!! Enjoy the weekend!!!!

It seems to me that I really have no idea how to keep things like journals, diaries, entries in facebook, forget about a twitter or tweet and, of course, a blog!!! So I'll begin again and see about updating so that I can have a record of my latest/newest adventures!

After receiving a phone call from the Apple store I attended a seminar last night on "social networking"! Okay, so I have this blog that I never pay attention to and I am on facebook a couple of times a day, so I thought I can do this! It was great!! I'm really going to give it a try and hope that my butt doesn't develop calluses as I try to move, I think the term is "drive," people toward my classes, etsy shop and business!

I'm sure it'll be interesting- I'm hoping to learn a lot just by doing.... and for once, I really hope I can keep something going for, hmmmm, I think I'll start with a month and then when that works, I'll extend the time period!

So, off I go.......

Looks like I've let the blog go yet again! It seems like I'm just focusing on each day as it comes which may be working- it's hard to tell!

I have finished a couple of pieces- sort of finished them.... I've got a woman creating my website- she's a great woman to work with and I can't wait to share what we've come up with! Hmmmm, teaching the handbuilding class is GREAT! Cutting the hair off was FREEING!!!!

I've been working at my bench most of the week. I must say that it's taking some time to get into a groove and I don't think I'm near full swing, but I have been truly enjoying the designing, sawing, soldering, mistake making and all that that entails!

As soon as I find the cord to download photos, I'll share a couple of pieces!

I'm also working on my Open House invites... Save Friday, November 21st for a night out with wine, desserts, jewels and laughter!

I've been working on some new thoughts and a new direction. Last week our California family visited us! Chris spent a week with us and it was truly much too short a visit!
He and I spent a lot of time talking.... Chris and I always spend a lot of time talking, but this time I really tried to share and LISTEN to all we discussed. One of the great things that came out of our sharing has been the "Intention Boards" that Zoe and I are doing. Both of us seem to be quite excited and motivated to find images, words and "things" that inspire us to either move in a direction, reach for something or just strive for certain things in our lives. I can't imagine how positive this can be for Zoe's life starting now to see her future!

Another thing that Chris helped me get back to is making time for what I want and need to be. I'm definitely taking steps to take charge of doing WHAT I WANT and learning to say no~ yet again!!! I can remember a time when I used to say, "No is a complete sentence," to friends of mine who were always doing so many things and not taking time for what they love or for themselves. I'm relearning that whole thing!

So, I suppose I'm just trying to update my blog by saying thank you to my friend who makes a difference in my family's life in so many ways! I'm looking forward to sharing the changes with my friends thru the blog and (ready for this) the upcoming website!!!!! FINALLY!! You'll all be notified when Juliesheartsdesire.com is up and running!!!!!

Things can change so quickly!!!

Okay, well, let's just say that I tried something and it probably wasn't the right path for me!!!! That being said, I will tell you that I learned a plethora of things about people, children, egos, choices and myself!!!! I know the last few months came my way for a reason and I'll keep pondering things until I figure it all out!
In order to ponder, I've needed to slowly get back into my own heart's desire! All things always lead me back to the jewelry and teaching and that creative side of myself that most definitely NEEDS to express.

The beads are out, the silver is out and the designs are creeping to the surface after being buried with feelings that I won't dwell on. The children I met have shown me how quickly bad things can be made better- with a smile, a joke, a hug and even just a new toy or person to play with! I kind of like that!

Right now, I'm using those passions at the Village Center of the Arts in the mornings working with 3-6 year olds in their Camp Creation. I've watched these little ones make beautiful animal sculptures from their imaginations and do realistic animal portraits! Real is "objective" with 3-6 year olds- but I loved them so much I matted them for the kids!

I also started my classes and had a private class with Kathy who was able to unleash her creative spirit and make a beautiful summer piece! I think she did great and I truly enjoyed sitting with her and working myself while she played with her designs!

Last- truly cool update..... most of you know the women I love that give me validation for my thoughts and strength in my spirit- Whoopi Goldberg's quote has been on this blog since I started. Anyway, I was able to get to The View yesterday with my cousin, Val and I was able to give Sherri Shephard one of my angels (definitely customized for WG) and she told me she'd make sure Whoopi got it! So, for me, I believe she'll get it and I believe it happened the way it was supposed to! It's a longer story, but I've got to get to camp!!!! If anyone has either of the children's books by WG, she's got a few more coming out in the fall- I asked her during a commercial and that's what she said........

Okay- as you can see, I'm definitely stale with the blog posts.... I'll be better now!

It's been awhile! I apologize for not updating and keeping everyone informed! Here's the latest....
Never let it be said that I don't like to try new things or appreciate a challenge! It's time for me to start down a new path- at least during the daylight hours!
As of Monday morning, I will be starting at the daycare at Faith Church. If things go as planned, I will be developing and helping to implement an ongoing developmental curriculum for the childcare area and helping to incorporate some other types of programming in their already working before and after school care.

I'm so excited to be working with kids and to be writing curriculum to work into place. The possibilities are endless and, as we know with kids, ALWAYS unexpected! I will be teaching my beading classes as well. I had my classes all ready to send out, but now, need to change the dates to start in March, rather than last week! If you have questions about any of the classes, the set up of them, what I may cover before you see the list, please don't hesitate to call me!
This weekend I will try to change the dates and I'm working on posting them in an email so many of you can get the list before the postal service delivers it! Don't hold me to this!

Don't worry- I LOVE teaching the classes- they are coming! Lots of new and fun projects coming and I'll be doing a couple of nights for many of them to allow for some flexibility for you all. Not sure about the weekend days yet! If you have any input, just let me know!

It's so hard to believe that 2008 is actually here! I don't think I ever thought about the year 2008 when I was my son's age! At any rate, I'm ready for whatever adventure comes up!

I'm finishing up the classes that will run through March. I'll be mailing out the list and trying to figure out how to post it as well. Stick with me- I"m still fumbling along here.

I wanted to post the necklaces I made for my family. I think they are a nice tribute to our family in general and are a special keepsake for my cousins. Having my parents close to my heart helps me get through some days whether there's a crisis or not!

We have some work from the first session that was completed last week! Rowena and Ann came last Monday to make their bracelets! I love them! Even though the same type of bracelet was made, they look so different. Ann & Rowena both chose to use lampwork beads made by a talented artist, Stephen Haus, of Lollipop Kid Glass in Candor, NY. I've bought many beads from Stephen, and they are amazing to wrok with. The bracelets are an accessory for a bolder statement!

It was time for me to try yet another area of "business" and finally, after many requests, I've worked out some gift certificates! As you can see, I've got $10, $25 & $50 gift certificates that you can purchase for the holiday season! The certificates can be used for a jewelry purchase or toward the classes I'll be having in 2008!

Magical Transformations!

Session 2 ended last night with a class called "Magical Transformations." The pieces created are truly one of a kind! It's amazing what you can do with a solo earring or a broken necklace or how an old piece of jewelry can have new life! Adding a gemstone or 2 can really make everything old new again!!

One more piece must be finished and will be posted as soon as it's completed.

Next week is a work session for anyone who's completed the classes and would like to make more of any of the pieces we've made. If you'd like to attend on Tuesday, please email me and let me know what you'd like to do so that I can make sure the materials are here for you. If you have some idea of colors and stones, please advise me what you'd like and I'll do my best. The only cost will be materials.

'Tis the season!!!

It appears that with the Thanksgiving holiday came an early rush of the holiday spirit! Not to be outdone by certain radio stations constant playing of Christmas music, the ladies made some beautiful, simple and elegant Swarovski crystal sets to give away (or actually keep and wear themselves).
Only one minor problem with a defective pair of sterling clip on earrings, but all in all the work is beautiful and the ladies left happy!
Next week we'll try to put together a necklace using a mixture of found pieces and leftover beads. After that I'm opening up my Tuesday nights for my students to come back and make some more of the projects for holiday gifts.

Pearl Perfections!

Tonight was the start of the session 2 classes. The ladies made some beautiful necklaces using pearls, sterling silver spacers and beads and a sterling photo frame. Each woman did such a wonderful job on their pieces!
I am so grateful this Thanksgiving week to have these women to share my passions with! I feel blessed to be able to share and I so enjoy each night we have our class. Thank you so much, each one of you!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for making my 6th Annual Holiday Open House such an enjoyable evening! The food, some from Executive Cuisine on Elm St in New Milford, was fabulous! Special thanks to Zach for taking care of everything in the kitchen during the evening and to Zoe for helping him with the prep. Executive Cuisine makes some of the most beautifully designed platters and the food tastes....mmmmm! Zach did his boss proud!

Thank also goes to Mike and Zoe for being my business/sales associates! As usual, Mike set up away from the jewelry and he and Zoe did an amazing job taking care of sales and making detailed tags for those who need adjustments.

It was a grand success all the way around. My heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of you who support my passions, my work and my dreams. I know that "Heart's Desire" is supported by many and my company wouldn't succeed without the love and support of my family and friends.

We finished up session 1 with a triple strand bracelet. Everyone there worked on their individual designs and came up with such beautiful pieces. After a little sizing issue (something that happens to me on a daily basis when I'm working with different kinds of beads) everyone walked out with a new bracelet. If the size is still an issue after wearing it- we'll work it out next time.

class 2: Sacred Intentions

The second class, Sacred Intentions, was designed to learn how to manipulate the pliers and learn to wrap wire along with learning about the energy of different stones. Last night, the ladies made a drop pendant necklace and a "matching" pair of earrings. From the sounds of things, the fire to create is definitely sparking!

Here's the work from the rest of the class! Everyone worked with the same beads and created their own "one of a kind" creation. Awesome, I say, just awesome!!!

I have to share the most wonderful story!
Yesterday, I was on the green in New Milford and watched the actors filming the movie Six Wives of Henry Lefay. It was fun to see Jenna Elfman come running around the corner with the ern and watch a few takes. As I watched, one of the women next to me shared that she just had a baby 3 months ago. While driving home, I thought I should make her one of my angels.

This morning, I worked the polls for the ambulance bldg vote and had to leave at 1 to prepare for my class tonight. On my way home, something told me that my routine wasn't going to go as planned! I just knew- absolutely knew that I had to make an angel for Ms Elfman and her son. I mean, there was no true urgency- it was just a calmness and matter of fact that I was to give her an angel.

I arrived home and proceeded to cut, file, sand, solder, patina, hang a rose quartz and engrave the back. I tucked it in one of my pouches with a business card and headed up to the green and all the while I kept just knowing I was to give this to her!

When I got to the spot from yesterday, there was no sign of them! Erin, in the natural food store told me they were shooting on Railroad St. I meandered down to see what was going on and all I saw were trucks. I never thought it wouldn't happen!
I saw Erin coming toward me with my car keys (I so forgetfully left in her shop) and seconds later, I saw Jenna Elfman walking with her son in her arms and her nanny walking behind! I followed them into the coffee house and quietly explained to the nanny I make jewelry and made this for Ms Elfman, the new mom. She told me to go ahead and give it to her and I walked up to her, shared that I wanted her to have a piece of my jewelry- an angel I made for her. After a quick look and conversation, I said good-bye and went on my way. I JUST KNEW I WAS SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT ANGEL~
What an awesome day- my lesson for the day....LISTEN to your heart~ sometimes angels whisper very softly!!!

This is the latest piece that I'll be working on. All the charms have gone to the casting company and I'm waiting to get the pieces back so that I can make a few bracelets. I'll be taking them to "Synchronicity" in Pawling, NY. The bracelets will join my angels. They're there now hopefully finding new homes!

I've decided to incorporate my 2 passions- teaching and jewelry! I've designed two sessions so far. They run for 3 weeks each and begin this Tuesday, 10/16. My first class in session 1 is called "tapping your creative spirit." We'll discuss tools, materials, design, color, and all the how to's about beading this project! The second class is called "Sacred Intentions." We'll be creating a drop pendant and earrings using different gemstones that help with positive energy. The third class is called "Triple the Beauty," and is a triple strand bracelet. This session is $145 and includes each class plus the materials for each project. This photo is my first student's first piece!! She designed the piece, did the layout, put it together herself and wore it proudly out the door! I must say, "Diane, you did fabulous, just FABULOUS!!!

I've been working on some more techniques! The photos are yet another issue, and hopefully, I'll get better at that or hire someone that really knows what they're doing!! It'll be a slow weekend, so don't look for new pieces for a couple of weeks! (I've got a book to finish!!)

New work happens almost daily- the house is falling down around me, but my jewely is coming along!!! Tomorrow is another class- I forbid the dustballs to settle here and the dishes to park in the sink...I'll worry about them later!!!

Not sure how this will work or what it'll turn into, but here I go!!! This is where I'll show my newest pieces and what we're up to. This piece is made in sterling with an etched design. I set light amethyst cz's with a faceted peridot. It's strung with watermelon tourmeline. The back is pierced with a spiral and stamped with the word "HAPPY".
